-
Agamemnon,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Apollo-class
frigate, Starfleet registry NCC-11638. The
Agamemnon was part of
Task Force 3, under the command of Captain Picard during the Borg incident
of 2369-70.
("Descent" [TNG #152&153]).
-
Age
of Ascension.
-
Klingon rite of passage marking
a new level of spiritual attainment for a warrior. The ritual involves
a recitation by the ascendee, proclaiming "DaHjaj
SuvwI'e'jiH. tIgwIj Sa'angnIS. Iw bIQtlhDaq jIjaH."
("Today I am a Warrior. I must show you my heart. I travel the river of
blood.") The warrior then strides between two lines of other Klingons,
who subject him or her to painsticks while the warrior is expected to express
his or her most profound feelings while under this extreme duress. Worf
underwent his Age of Ascension ritual at age 15 in 2355. In 2365, Worf
celebrated the anniversary of his Age of Ascension with his Enterprise-D
crewmates. Worf's brother Kurn was not told that he was a son of Mogh until
his Age of Ascension in 2360. Until that point, Kurn believed that he was
the son of Lorgh. ("The Icarus Factor" [TNG #40]; "Sins of the Father"
[TNG #65]; "First Born" [TNG #173]).
-
Age
of Ascension.
-
Ferengi rite of passage. When
a Ferengi is old enough, he sells all of his childhood possessions and
uses the money as capital when beginning his adult life.
("Family Business"
[DS9 #69]; "Little Green Men" [DS9 #80]).
-
Age
of Decision.
-
Talarian rite of passage signaling
the age of majority for a male at 14 years. SEE: Jono. ("Suddenly Human"
[TNG #76]).
-
Age
of Inclusion.
-
Klingon term. Worf had not yet
reached the Age of Inclusion when he was orphaned at Khitomer in his youth.
("Heart
of Glory" [TNG #20]).
-
Agena.
-
Star system the starship Enterprise
passed through in 2273. The ship was set upon by Mox vessels originating
from Agena IV.
("The Expansionist Syndrome" [Marvel TOS #8]).
-
Agena
IV.
-
Planet, home to the Mox and
Org species. Until 2273 the two were at war because of their vastly different
evolutions. The Orgs were descendants of ancient human travelers who made
Agena their home. The Mox are a machine culture of unkown origin. The Orgs
had ecologically devastated the planet, which the Mox were trying to terraform
into a livable world again. The two factions were at war until the starship
Enterprise
intervened, depositing an agricultural engineer to oversee the facilitation
of civilization for both species. ("The Expansionist Syndrome" [Marvel
TOS #8]).
-
Agena,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, a destroyer
type vessel, Starfleet registry NCC-1816. This vessel existed in the mid
to late 23rd century, built by Ishikawajima Harima Industries in Yokohama
on Terra on November 1, 2275. The Agena's top speed was warp 9.9
on the old scale, and the ship was armed with four torpedo launchers and
four phaser emitters. This vessel's complement is 200 crewpeople.
(Technical
Manual [TOS]; Begin Tactical Starship Simulator [Clockwork Software]; Ships
of the Star Fleet). There is, of course, no evidence that the Agena
in the game was meant to be the Agena in the Technical Manual, but
the ships in the TM list are better assigned to any other class, rather
than being Constitution-variants, in my opinion.
-
Agent
201.
-
Human raised by the Aegis, then
returned to Earth in the 1960s with a mission to protect humanity from
it's own self-destructive nature. Agents 201 and 347 were killed in a car
accident before they could complete their task, so their mission fell to
Supervisor 194, a.k.a. Gary Seven. ("Assignment: Earth" [TOS #55]).
-
Agent

-
Human raised by the Aegis, then

it's own self-destructive nature. Agents 347 and 201 were killed in a car
accident before they could complete their task, so their mission fell to
Supervisor 194, a.k.a. Gary Seven. ("Assignment: Earth" [TOS #55]).
-
Aggregation
of Rigellian Systems.
-
Planetary government of the
Rigel star system, an important component of the Federation. The contact
world is Rigel IV. ("Dreadnought!" [Pocket TOS #29]).
-
Aghlarren
the Mote.
-
("The Devil's Heart" [Pocket
TNG HC #3]).
-
Agilis-class.
-
Type of Federation starship,
classified as a perimeter action vessel. The Agilis-class was first
constructed in the 2240s. By the beginning of the 24th century these vessels
were all removed from service. (Ships of the Star Fleet).
-
Agilis,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, prototype
for the Agilis-class perimeter action ship, Starfleet registry NCC-855.
(Ships
of the Star Fleet).
-
Agincourt,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, a destroyer-type
vessel. Built in the 23rd century. (Federation
Starship Recognition Manual [FASA RPG]). The manual listed this as
a Larson-class destroyer
with a registry of NCC-4314. I haven't listed it in the main body of the
entry, because it seems unlikely Starfleet would have so many hundreds
of the same type of ship.
-
Agincourt,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Excelsior-class
heavy cruiser. The second starship to bear the name, Agincourt is
missing and presumed destroyed. (FASA Officer's Manual [TNG]).
-
Agmar.
-
Phylosian.
("The Infinite
Vulcan" [TAS #2]). Played by James Doohan. Entry incomplete.
-
Agnal.
-
Crewperson on the Chalnoth vessel
Bludgeoner.
Agnal was coccooned by a creature on Beta Scoraata II when investigating
the loss of the crew of the vessel
Blade.
("Mother of Madness"
[DC TNG vol.2 #60]).
-
Agnatha.
-
Federation ambassador from the
planet Jezero. In 2269 Agnatha was murdered aboard the starship Enterprise
while en route to Détente Station 1. ("Death's Angel" [Bantam
TOS]).
-
agonizer.
-
Small device worn by each crew
member of the I.S.S. Enterprise in the mirror universe. It is extremely
similar to a device used by the Klingon Empire in our universe. This device
was used for punishment or torture and was extremely painful.
("Mirror,
Mirror" [TOS #39]; "Day of the Dove" [TOS #66]). Hence the name.
-
agony
booth.
-
Method of torture in the mirror
universe on board the I.S.S.
Enterprise. The mirror Chekov was subjected
to the booth after an assassination attempt on Captain Kirk.
("Mirror,
Mirror" [TOS #39]).
-
Agorra.
-
Commander of a Romulan warbird.
In 2290 she activated a neural surger that killed the defector Peter Erikson
rather than see him returned to the Federation while pursuing him aboard
Saavik's vessel. ("Renegade" [DC TOS vol.2 #51]).
-
Agovanli.
-
Starfleet lieutenant commander,
an acquaintance of James Kirk's. Agovanli took the opportunity of buying
Kirk a few drinks before Kirk took command of the starship Enterprise
in 2264, in order to repay him for an incident years earlier when Kirk
had helped to intoxicate another officer before a command ceremony. ("Enterprise:
The
First Adventure" [Pocket Giant #1]).
-
Agrat-Mot
Nebula.
-
Nebula within B'omar space.
Janeway suggested taking Voyager through the nebula, but this was
not acceptable as it was a key resource in the B'omar trade negotiations
with the Nassordin.
("The Raven" [VGR #74]).
-
Agrowsky.
-
Crewman on the Enterprise-A
who, in a hallucination, fancied himself as a gourmet chef. ("Mudd's
Magic!" [DC TOS vol.2 #40]).
-
Agtekerk,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Arbiter-class
perimeter action ship, Starfleet registry NCC-1082. Built by Temerand Duplicat
in Calabay City on Mars. Commissioned in 2287. (Ships of the Star Fleet,
vol. 2).
-
Aguayo,
Monico C.
-
Starfleet captain. In 2374 a
report from the starship Exeter
reported that Captain Aguayo was killed in action. ("In
the Pale Moonlight" [DS9 #143]). The names and status reports came
from a casualty report shown in a background computer display.
-
Ahkeil,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Loknar-class
frigate, Starfleet registry NCC-2701. (FASA RPG Sourcebook).
-
Ah-Kel.
-
Miradorn whose twin, Ro-Kel,
was killed by the fugitive Croden during a robbery in 2369. Ah-Kel's symbiotic
relationship with his twin was severed and he vowed to kill Croden in retaliation.
("Vortex"
[DS9 #12]). Played by Randy Oglesby.
-
Ahab.
-
Fictional character in Melville's
Moby
Dick. Lily Sloane compared Picard to Ahab because of his overpowering
vengeance towards the Borg.
("First Contact" [Movie #8]).
-
ahdar.
-
Son'a rank, approximately equivalent
to a Starfleet commander. ("Insurrection" [Movie #9]).
-
Ahjess.
-
Son of Lela Dax. Ahjess would
often climb into bed with his mother when he craved attention. ("To
the Death" [DS9 #96]).
-
ahn-woon.
-
Vulcan weapon made of a single
leather strap that can be used as a whip or a noose. Spock appeared to
strangle Kirk with an ahn-woon during their 2267 fight on Vulcan
in 2267. ("Amok Time" [TOS #34]).
-
Ahrens.
-
Cadet at Starfleet Academy in
2292 who took a training cruise aboard the Enterprise-A.
("A
Question of Loyalty" [DC TOS vol.2 Special #2]).
-
Ahriman,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Saladin-class
destroyer, Starfleet registry NCC-513. (Technical Manual [TOS]).
-
Ahwahnee,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Starfleet
registry NCC-2048. This is one of the starships that was tapped to possibly
serve in 'Operation: Retrieve' in 2293. ("The Undiscovered County" [Movie
#6]). The Ahwahnee's registry and name were only seen in background graphic
art created by Michael Okuda.
-
Ahwahnee,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Cheyenne-class
exploratory cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-73620. Second starship to bear
the name. The Ahwahnee was severely damaged by the Borg with all
hands lost at Wolf 359. The hull was salvaged and, because of an emergency
along the Klingon-Romulan border, recrewed to serve in Picard's armada
in 2368. ("The Best of Both Worlds" [TNG #74&75]; "Redemption" [TNG
#100&101]). The Ahwahnee in Picard's fleet was misnumbered NCC-71620.
I take this to mean it was the same ship, as a new Ahwahnee probably
wouldn't have such a similar registry or predate the registry of its predecessor.
-
Ahzdar,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship proposed
during the 23rd century. This vessel's construction was cancelled, and
it's registry was assigned to another vessel. (Technical
Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]; Ships
of the Star Fleet [Mastercom]). It's possible ships of these names
were still built, of different classes and registry numbers. If built,
this ship would have been Achernar-class, with the registry NCC-1790,
according to the manuals.
-
AI.
-
Abbreviation for artificial
intelligence.
-
A'ila'Mos.
-
Species native to the planet
A'Mos.
("Traitor Winds" [Pocket TOS #70]).

used at Starfleet Headquarters, used by Admiral Kirk to travel to a meeting
with Admiral Nogura in 2272. ("The Motion Picture" [Movie #1]).
-
Airborne.
-
Starfleet officer who served
at Brundage Station. Airborne was killed with the help of the Furies' fear
weapon in 2370. His bones were found by an away team from the starship
Enterprise-D.
("The
Soldiers of Fear" [Pocket TNG #41]).
-
airlock.
-
Aboard a spaceship or space
station, an airlock is a chamber that permits personnel to pass from an
area in which an atmosphere is maintained, into an area where there is
no atmosphere or a different atmosphere exists. ("Captive Pursuit" [DS9
#6]).
-
airponics
bay.
-
Area in the starship Voyager
dedicated to growing plants to supplement the crews food supply. The airponics
bay was primarily created by Kes, and was supervised by her until her departure.
Kes once accidentally killed all the plants here as an offshoot of her
blossoming telekinetic abilities. Lon Suder believed he could adapt genetic
engineering techniques he used on his orchids to enhance the airponic bay
growth. Kes felt her most content watching seedlings grow here, as she
stated when Tieran took over her mind.
("Elogium" [VGR #18]; "Cold Fire"
[VGR #26]; "Basics" [VGR 42&46]; "Warlord" [VGR #52]).
-
Airy,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Doppler-class
transport/tug, Starfleet registry NCC-3831.
(Technical Manual [TOS]).
-
Aizawa,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship. Lieutenants
Sam LaVelle and Taurik served on this vessel on the front in the Dominion
war after being transferred off the Enterprise-E. The Aizawa
was captured by the Jem'Hadar and it's crew placed in work camps building
a verteron collider for an artificial wormhole. ("Behind Enemy Lines"
[Pocket Dominion War #1]).

perimeter action ship, Starfleet registry NCC-1109. (Ships of the Star
Fleet vol.2).
-
Ajax,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Cochise-class
destroyer, Starfleet registry NCC-547. (Technical Manual [TOS]).
-
Ajax,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Apollo-class
frigate, Starfleet registry NCC-11574. Second starship to bear the name.
In 2327 this was Cortin Zweller's first assignment when he graduated from
Starfleet Academy, under the command of Captain Narth. Kosinski performed
adjustments on this vessels warp drive in 2364. This ship was part of Picard's
armada in the 2368 blockade between Romulan supply vessels and the Klingon
civil war. ("Tapestry" [TNG #141]; "Where No One Has Gone Before" [TNG
#6]; "Redemption" [TNG #100&101]).
-
Ajilon
Prime.
-
Federation colony. During a
brief cease-fire of the Klingon-Federation war of 2373, this colony was
the site of renewed Klingon aggression. Starfleet Dr. Julian Bashir and
reporter Jake Sisko assisted in this world's emergency medical facilities
until the skirmish ended. ("Nor the Battle to the Strong" [DS9 #102]).
-
Ajur.
-
27th century Vorgon criminal
who traveled to 2366 to locate Captain Picard and the Tox Uthat.
("Captain's
Holiday" [TNG #67]).
-
"Ak'la
bella doo."
-
Klingon folk song. Jadzia Dax
taught this song to the Klingon restauranteur on the Promenade of DS9.
He was amazed she knew a Klingon song he had never heard. ("Playing
God" [DS9 #37]).
-
Ak'voh.
-
Old Klingon tradition. ("The
Ship" [DS9 #100]).
-
Akaar.
-
High teer of the Ten
Tribes of Capella IV. ("Friday's Child" [TOS #32]).
-
Akaar,
Leonard James.
-
Starfleet senior fleet admiral,
and the former High Teer of Capella IV. Akaar was named in honor
of James Kirk and Leonard McCoy, who saved his pregnant mother from execution
after the overthrow of his father, High Teer Akaar of the Ten Tribes.
Akaar grew to rule his planet justly in the tradition of the men who saved
him, and stated such in 2287, when he spoke before the Federation Council
at the age of 19, to defend the supposed violation of the Prime Directive
which had allowed him to livehi.
("Friday's Child" [TOS #32]; "...Let's
Kill All the Lawyers!" [DC TOS vol.2 #11]).
-
Akadar,
Temple of.
-
("The Perfect Mate" [TNG
#121]).
-
Akagi,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Rigel-class,
Starfleet registry NCC-62158. Engineer Nagurski
transferred from this ship to the Enterprise-D
in 2367. The Akagi served in Picard's
armada to blockade
Romulan supply ships
supplying the Duras family forces during
the Klingon civil war in 2368. In
2374, the Akagi was a part of the Ninth
Fleet headquartered at starbase Deep Space
9. This vessel was involved with fighting on the Dominion
front and submitted casualty reports which were received by Deep Space
9. ("Redemption" [TNG #100&101];
"You Are Cordially
Invited..." [DS9 #131]; "In
the Pale Moonlight" [DS9 #143]; "Wet
Behind the Ears" [DC TNG vol.2 #32]). The Akagi was named for
the Japanese carrier that fought the American warship U.S.S.
Hornet
in the bitter Battle of Midway in World War
II. Episode writer Ron Moore thought it fitting that in Star Trek's
future, the Akagi would be serving alongside the Hornet.
The "In the Pale Moonlight" names and status reports came from a casualty
report shown in a background computer display.
-
Akbar,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Cochise-class
destroyer, Starfleet registry NCC-548. (Technical Manual [TOS]).
-
Akhmatova,
Zhanya.
-
Captain of the starship Starhawk
in 2271. ("Recovery" [Pocket TOS]).
-

-
Akif-class.
-
Type of Klingon battlecruiser,
classified as a D-7. The
Akif-class was the main symbol of Klingon
power in the 23rd century, and the same basic design was utilized for the
uprated K't'inga-class D-7 battlecruiser first constructed in the
2270s. This class was eventually phased out by those ships. Many ships
of this type were sold to the Romulans in the period where these two empires
formed an alliance. Ships of the
Akif-class include the Bortas,
Gr'oth,
Klolode,
Varchas
and, presumably, the Akif. ("Elaan of Troyius" [TOS #57]; "My
Enemy, My Ally" [Pocket TOS #18]; "The Romulan Way" [Pocket TOS #35]).
-
Akif,
I.K.S.
-
Klingon battleship, prototype
for the Akif-class.
(Conjecture).
-

-
Akira-class.
-
Type of Federation starship
first built in the mid-24th century. The Akira-class includes the
starships Thunderchild, Spector, and Rabin. 19 decks high
(excluding the outboard weapons pod, which may be interchanged or removed),
this class measures 464 meters in length, 87 meters in height (with module
attached) and 316 meters in width; masses 3,055,000 metric tons and crews
between 487 and 515 personnel in normal conditions, depending on the individual
modification of the ship. This ship is capable of reaching warp 9.8 for
almost 12 hours at its maximum rating, and houses three or more large shuttlebays
for deploying carriers, probes or fighters.
This
vessel is equipped for large scale bombardment operations, with over fifteen
launch tubes. ("First Contact" [Movie #8]; Technical Manual [Pocket
DS9]; The Price of Freedom [LUG RPG Sourcebook]; Starships [Decipher RPG
Sourcebook]). The name "Akira-class" was not featured in the "First Contact"
film but rather was revealed from the designer's sources in various official
references. The Akira was designed by Alex Jaeger and exists as a computer
model built by ILM. There have been extensive discussions about the design
of this vessel by many Star Trek fans,: While the stylish design is very
attractive, the weapons statistics seem to be exaggerated, with more than
fifteen bombardment torpedo launchers and through-deck shuttle operations,
the ship might hardly have the space to house some of its crew and its
power plants
