-
HD-25
maintenance unit.
-
Holographic technician used
aboard Serosian spacecraft in the Delta Quadrant. Dejaren was an HD-25
maintenance unit. ("Revulsion [VGR]).
-
heading.
-
In celestial navigation, a mathematical
expression describing a direction with relationship to the center of the
galaxy. A heading is composed of two numbers measuring an azimuth value
and an elevation value in degrees. A heading of 000, mark 0 describes a
direction toward the geometric center of the galaxy. In terms of navigation
on a planet's surface, this is analogous to describing a direction in degrees
from north, in which case a course of 5 degrees would be slightly to the
right of a direction directly toward the planet's north pole. A heading
differs from a bearing in that is has no relationship to the current attitude
or orientation of the spacecraft. (Technical Manual [Pocket TNG; Sternbach
& Okuda]).
-
Health
and Safety Inspection.
-
Starfleet procedure used to
assure that spacecraft in Federation jurisdiction maintained adequate conditions
for crew and passengers. The Federation treaty with the Klingons provided
for such inspection of Klingon vessels operating in Federation space. The
Enterprise-D
personnel used this clause as an excuse to detain and search a Toron-class
shuttlecraft piloted by Koral in 2370. ("Gambit" [TNG]).
-
heart
of targ.
-
Traditional Klingon dish. Commander
Riker tasted some of this when he tried to acquaint himself with Klingon
culture prior to his temporary assignment to the Pagh in 2365.
("A Matter of Honor" [TNG]).
-
heater.
-
Slang term on planet Sigma Iotia
II for a firearm. ("A Piece of the Action" [TOS]).
-
heavy
graviton beam.
-
A directed energy weapon considered
for possible use against the Borg during the Borg offensive of 2367. The
idea was abandoned when it was determined that local field distortion generation
would be ineffective against Borg defenses. ("The Best of Both Worlds"
[TNG]).
Hechu'ghoS.
-
Klingon phrase meaning "set
course," as in to set a ship's course. ("Unification" [TNG]).
-
Hedford,
Nancy.
-
Assistant Federation Commissioner
who was assigned to mediate a peace agreement on planet Epsilon Canaris
III in 2267 in an effort to avert an impending war. Hedford was forced
to leave the negotiations prematurely when she contracted deadly Sakuro's
disease. Commissioner Hedford died aboard the shuttlecraft Galileo
while being transported to the Enterprise. Her body and mind was
preserved, merged with the life-form known as the Companion, on a planetoid
in the Gamma Canaris region, where she found love with noted scientist
Zefram Cochrane. The crew that left her there did so with the promise that
the Federation would never be informed of either of their true fates. ("Metamorphosis"
[TOS]). Played by Elinor Donahue.
-
Hedrikspool.
-
Province on Bajor. DS9 Deputy
Setrins family lived there at the time of her death. ([Pocket DS9]).
-
Hedril.
-
Young Cairn child and daughter
of Maques, who visited the Enterprise-D in 2370 as part of a diplomatic
mission. Hedril reminded Ambassador Lwaxana Troi of her deceased daughter,
Kestra, triggering the release of painful memories that Troi had suppressed
for years. ("Dark Page [TNG]). Played by Kirsten Dunst, who appeared
in metaconscious sequences playing the role of Kestra but without Cairn
makeup. Star Trek being one of her earliest acting appearances, Dunst would
later go on to appear in many popular films, such as Interview with
the Vampire.
-
Hegh'bat.
-
Literally translated as "The
Time to Die," the Hegh'bat ceremony was a Klingon ritualized suicide.
Klingon tradition held that when a Klingon was unable to stand and face
his enemies, he should choose the Hegh'bat. The rite called for
the eldest son of the celebrant, or a trusted friend, to deliver a ritual
knife to the warrior, who would impale himself in the chest. The son or
friend would then remove the knife and wipe it on his sleeve. Following
a severe spinal injury in 2368, Lieutenant Worf considered the Hegh'bat,
but was dissuaded from completing the ritual when offered the alternative
of genetronic replication therapy. ("Ethics" [TNG]).
-
Hegh-Duj.
-
Klingon term, meaning "death
ship." Worf exclaimed this upon boarding a plaque infested ship of Maquis
expatriates. ("The Cancer Within" [Marvel DS9 #3&4]).
-
Hegh'ta,
I.K.S.
-
Klingon bird-of-prey, commanded
by Kurn. The ship was used in support of the Gowron regime during the Klingon
civil war of 2367-2368. Worf served briefly aboard the Hegh'ta as tactical
officer during that conflict. ("Redemption" [TNG]).
-
Heidi.
-
Space vessel that took part
in the Belle Terre expedition in the 2270s.
("Wagon Train to the Stars"
[Pocket New Earth #1]).
-
Heifetz,
Jascha.
-
(1901-1987). Famous concert
violinist. Data programmed himself to emulate Heifetz's performance style.
("Sarek
[TNG]).
-
Heihachiro
Nogura, U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Decker-class
heavy destroyer, Starfleet registry NCC-6032. (Officer's Manual [FASA
TNG RPG]).
-
Heinlein,
Robert A.
-
(1907-1988). Twentieth century
Terran novelist. Heinlein was sometimes known as the "dean of science fiction"
for his role in developing the genre as a sophisticated mode of literary
expression. Heinlein's works include such stories as The Puppet Masters,
first published in Galaxy Science Fiction magazine. Herbert Rossoff
felt he would be in good company if his stories were published alongside
those of Heinlein. ("Far Beyond the Stars [DS9]). Many students of science
fiction have regarded Heinlein's works as being a significant influence
on Gene Roddenberry's development of the original Star Trek television
series.
-
Heisenberg,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, built under
the auspices of Project Sign. The Heisenberg is commanded by Captain
Hu-Linn Radisson, and is a top secret base of operations for Project Sign.
No record of this vessel's existence is recorded in any Starfleet database.
This vessel is named for scientist Werner Heisenberg.
("Preserver" [Pocket
TOS]).
-
Heisenberg
compensators.
-
Component of a transporter system,
designed to permit the derivation of precision vector and positional data
of particles on a subatomic level. Picard suggested disengaging the Heisenberg
compensators as a possible means of giving physical reality to the computer
intelligence version of Professor James Moriarty, but it was a ruse to
buy time. ("Realm of Fear" [TNG]; "Ship in a Bottle" [TNG]). Werner
Heisenberg's "uncertainty principle" suggests that on a subatomic level,
it is possible to know the motion or the position of a particle, but not
both. Some scientists have suggested this basic characteristic of matter
may make it impossible for a transporter as seen on Star Trek to work,
so Mike Okuda suggested the "Heisenberg compensator" as a bit of a scientific
gag to "explain" how the transporter does it anyway. No, he doesn't have
any idea how it would work.
-
Hekarans.
-
Humanoid inhabitants of Hekaras
II. ("Force of Nature" [TNG]).
-
Hekaras
II.
-
Class-M planet, a Federation
member. Located in the Hekaras Corridor, Hekaras II was the only inhabited
planet in the region. In the late 2360s, two Hekaran scientists discovered
that the region of space near their planet was very susceptible to warp
field effect. They tried to persuade the Federation Council and their own
people to avoid the use of warp travel in the area, even though it would
mean the almost total isolation of their planet. It was not until 2370,
following the formation of a subspace rift in the Corridor, that the scientists'
theories were believed. Unfortunately, due to the gravitational shifts
following the formation of the rift, the climate of Hekaras II began to
change. As a short-term measure, Starfleet was able to assist the Hekarans
with a weather control matrix. ("Force of Nature" [TNG]).
-
Hekaras
Corridor.
-
Region of space, approximately
12 light-years long, near the Hekaran system that was commonly used for
interstellar travel. Much of the surrounding areas are saturated with unusually
intense tetryon fields, so the Hekaras Corridor provided the only means
of safe passage for starships. In 2366, two Hekaran scientists, Serova
and Rabal, submitted a preliminary report to the Federation Science Council,
theorizing that the Hekaras Corridor was stressed by warp fields and would
soon develop a rupture. They further theorized that, if warp drive usage
continued at its present rate, the ruptures would spread throughout inhabited
space. At the time, the Council found their theories lacking sufficient
proof. In 2370, Rabal and Serova booby-trapped the Corridor with verteron
mines, in order to gain the attention of Starfleet. When the Enterprise-D
was disabled by one of these mines, Captain Jean-Luc Picard agreed to listen
to Serova's theory, and found it to be worthy of resubmission to the Science
Council. Unsatisfied with his response, Serova caused a warp core breach
aboard her ship, causing a subspace rupture in the Corridor, just as she
had predicted. Thereafter, the Federation Council ordered the Corridor
limited to essential travel only, in order to slow any further damage to
the region. The Council further ordered Federation ships throughout the
galaxy to restrict their maximum speed to warp 4.7. ("Force of Nature"
[TNG]). The Enterprise-D and other ships observed the "warp speed
limit" for the remainder of Star Trek: The Next Generation. After that,
it was assumed that Starfleet was able to develop a more "environmentally
friendly" warp drive, so the speed limit was evidently lifted.
-
Hektor,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Cochise-class
destroyer, Starfleet registry NCC-539. (Star Fleet Technical Manual
[Franz Joseph]).
-
Helaspont
Nebula.
-
Astronomical cloud containing
numerous protoplanetary masses. In 2371, the U.S.S. Ulysses commanded
by Captain Entebe studied the Helaspont Nebula. ("The Adversary" [DS9]).
-
Helen
of Troy.
-
Terran mytho-historical figure.
("The
Legacy of Lazarus" [Gold Key TOS #9]).
-
Heler
-
Heler was a prisoner on the
Cardassian ship Ravinok in 2366 when it was attacked by the Breen
and forced to land on Dozaria. Heler survived the crash and was forced
to labor in the Breen dilithium mines on Dozaria. He and several other
crash survivors were rescued by Kira Nerys and Gul Dukat in 2372. ("Indiscretion
[DS9]). Played by Thomas Prisco.
-
Helewa,
Isam
-
Master of meditation and breathing
techniques. He was a mentor to Dr. Julian Bashir, during Bashir's college
years. ("Crossover" [DS9]).
-
helium
fusion enhancement.
-
Theoretical technique that would
increase the energy output of a dying star by increasing the temperature
and pressure inside the star so that the star begins helium fusion, thus
increasing its useful life. A test of this technique, designed by Dr. Timicin
of planet Kaelon II in 2367, used shock waves from a carefully controlled
series of photon torpedo explosions to create zones of elevated pressure
where helium ignition could occur. Timicin tested the process in 2367,
but the test was a dramatic failure, causing a red giant star to go supernova.
Further work was required, but the elderly Timicin returned to his homeworld
for his Resolution, hoping that others would continue his research. ("Half
a Life" [TNG]).
-
Hellguard.
-
Fifth planet in the 872 Trianguli
star system, an abandoned Romulan military outpost. Romulan soldiers assigned
there nicknamed the settlement thieurrul, which became the planet's
name, and translates as "hellguard." ("The Pandora Principle" [Pocket
TOS #49]).
-
Helin,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Starfleet
registry NCC-1692. Named for astronomer Eleanor Helin. A scientific
survey ship, the Helin was assigned Neutral Zone patrol in sector
21290 in 2293. ("The Undiscovered Country" [Movie #6]). The Helins
information is taken from a starship mission assignment list displayed
on Enterprise computer screens in Star Trek VI. Judging by the registry
number, the ship could be a Constitution-class vessel, but this
is pure speculation, and no such information is presented in the film.
-
Helios,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Starfleet
registry NCC-1825. (Star Fleet Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]).
The Helios was supposedly built as a Tikopai-class vessel.
-
Helios,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Starfleet
registry NCC-2754. (Federation Starship Recognition Manual [FASA TOS
RPG]). The text indicated this might have been built as a Loknar-class
frigate.
-
helm.
-
Aboard a starship, the control
station and officer responsible for actually piloting the ship. The helm
officer was also called a helmsman. In some starships, this function was
merged with the duties of the navigator, and dubbed conn, or flight controller.
Mr. Sulu was the helmsman aboard the Enterprise during the original
Star Trek series. The terms helm and helmsman were replaced with conn at
the beginning of Star Trek: The Next Generation. An oddity is that the
flight control station on Captain Archer's Enterprise NX-01, is
too similar to the much later 24th century starship, it lacks a navigation
station like its descendant the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701. This
could possibly be explained that, in the older era of the pre-Federation
ship, the navigation was much more complicated and required course plotters
who worked at the map board or belowdecks.
-
Helmes,
Joshua.
-
Commander of Starbase 7 in 2287.
Helmes, an old friend of Scotty, had served on starships, but was placed
on base duty because Helmes lost his first command, a small scout, due
to a series of elementary mistakes. The bitter Helmes later used his base
commander position to expedite a drug smuggling ring until apprehended
when four murders occured while Scott was on shore leave. ("Rest &
Recreation" [DC TOS vol.2 #18]).
-
helmsman.
-
Crewperson aboard a starship
responible for piloting the vessel. SEE: helm.
-
hematological
scan.
-
Medical diagnostic study of
a patient's blood factors. ("Mortal Coil" [VGR]).
-
Helsinki,
S.S.
-
Terran spaceship of the DY-400
class. (DY Series Comparison Chart).
-
Hemikek
IV
-
Class-M planet in a yellow dwarf
system in the Delta Quadrant. Hemikek was rich in minerals, and the mining
rights on the planet belonged to a consortium of nonaggressive people.
In 2372, Michael Jonas sabotaged Voyager's magnetic constrictors
so that they would be forced to vent plasma, severely damaging the inner
layer of the warp coils. This damage was designed to force Voyager
to visit Hemikek, where Kazon forces were lying in ambush. Later that year,
Seska told Michael Jonas that the Kazon-Nistrim would rendezvous at Hemikek
IV once Voyager was destroyed. ("Investigations" [VGR]; "Lifesigns"
[VGR]).
-
Hemingway,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, named for
renowned Terran author Ernest Hemingway. The Hemingway towed the
severely damaged U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-E to spacedock following
its battle with the Reman warbird Scimitar in the Bassen Rift in
late 2378. ("Nemesis" [Movie #10]). Hemingway's (1899-1961) works include
The
Sun Also Rises and The Old Man and the Sea. The dialogue mentioning
the Hemingway was in the Nemesis script, but was cut from the theatrical
release of the film.
-
hemoatrophia.
-
Medical condition. In an alternate
timeframe, Captain Spock of the V.S.S. ShiKahr noted that a young
female Rigelian on his ship was recovering from hemoatrophia in the sickbay.
("Killing
Time" [Pocket TOS #24]).
-
hemocythemia.
-
Medical condition in which intercellular
pressures are unstable. This condition was also called hemocythemic imbalance
and could be treated with osmotic pressure therapy. ("Deadlock" [VGR]).
-
Henard.
-
Crewperson aboard the starship
Voyager.
("State
of Flux" [VGR]).
-
Hencke,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Starfleet
registry NCC-3847. (Star Fleet Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]).
This vessel's construction was proposed as a Doppler-class transport.
-
Henderson,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Starfleet
registry NCC-3914. (Star Fleet Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]).
This vessel's construction was proposed as a Dollond-class transport.
-
Hendorff.
-
Starfleet security crewperson
assigned to the starship Enterprise crew member. Hendorff was killed
by a poisonous plant on planet Gamma Trianguli VI in 2267. ("The Apple
[TOS]). Played by Mal Friedman. He was killed because he wore a red shirt.
He should have known better.
-
Hendrick.
-
Transporter crewperson aboard
the starship Enterprise-D. Hendrick was on duty when the transformed
Commander La Forge beamed down to the surface of Tarchannen III in 2367.
La Forge overpowered Hendrick, and he was unable to stop the transport.
("Identity
Crisis [TNG]). Played by Dennis "Danger" Madalone, stunt coordinator for
Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek:
Voyager. He has been seen as a variety of security guards and other victims
of mayhem.
-
Hendricks.
-
Starfleet admiral. ("Friendship
One" [VGR]). Played by Peter Dennis.
-
Hengist.
-
Originally a resident of Rigel
IV, later employed as a city administrator on planet Argelius II. Hengist's
body was possessed by an evil energy life-form that thrived on the emotion
of terror and was responsible for several brutal murders. This entity,
which traveled to Argelius II in Hengist's body, was also known as Redjac,
Beratis, Kesla, and Jack the Ripper. ("Wolf in the Fold [TOS]). Played
by John Fiedler.
-
Henley,
Mariah.
-
Maquis resistance fighter who
joined the crew of Voyager. During the first few weeks after the
ship was lost in the Delta Quadrant in 2371, Henley became regarded as
undisciplined. Accordingly, Henley was among several Maquis crew members
assigned to Lieutenant Tuvok for field training. ("Learning Curve" [VGR]).
Played by Catherine MacNeal. Henley's first name was not mentioned in dialog
but is from the script.
-
Henley,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Wilkerson-class
destroyer. The Henley was destroyed in a docking collision with
the starship Carmichael. (Federation Starship Recognition Manual
[FASA TOS RPG]). The Wilkerson-class schematic shown I created for
http://captainmike.org. Please reuse only with a link back to my site.
-
Hennesey.
-
Crewperson aboard the starship
Enterprise-D.
Henessey suffered from Andronesian encephalitis in 2365 and was treated
by Dr. Kate Pulaski. The shape-shifting allasomorph Anya wanted to kill
Hennesey because she considered his illness a threat for her protege Salia.
("The
Dauphin" [TNG]).
-
Henoch.
-
One of three advanced beings
who survived a devastating war that destroyed the planet Arret 500,000
years prior. Enterprise personnel discovered Henoch and the other
two survivors in 2268, their consciousness having been encased in receptacles
stored in an underground vault. Upon Henoch's revival, Spock allowed Henoch's
intellect to borrow Spock's body so that Henoch could construct android
bodies for the survivors. Henoch was, however, unable to leave behind his
old hatreds, and tried to destroy Sargon and Thalassa before being destroyed
himself. ("Return to Tomorrow" [TOS]).
-
Henry,
Thomas.
-
Vice-admiral assigned to Starfleet
security. Henry visited the Enterprise-D in 2367, while Admiral
Norah Satie was conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding
an explosion in the ship's engine room. Satie suspected the explosion to
be evidence of a serious security breach. Henry ordered Satie's inquest
discontinued after determining that her investigation was proceeding without
probable cause and was therefore in violation of the Federation Constitution's
Seventh Guarantee against self-incrimination. ("The Drumhead" [TNG]).
Played by Earl Billings.
-
Henry
V.
-
Classic drama written by William
Shakespeare on Earth. A holographic performance of the play was available
on the Enterprise-D holodeck. In this simulation, the holodeck participant
could perform one of the roles. Data chose this play as part of his ongoing
study of the human condition. ("The Defector" [TNG]). Patrick Stewart,
a former member of the Royal Shakespearean Company, played the holographic
image of Michael Williams, a character in the drama.
-
Henshaw,
Christy.
-
Resident aboard the starship
Enterprise-D.
Henshaw and Geordi La Forge had a date on the holodeck just prior to the
discovery of the Promellian cruiser Cleponji in 2366. Although La Forge
put a lot of effort into making the holodeck program a romantic experience,
Christie eventually told him that she didn't feel "that way" about him.
Later that year, when Geordi's self-confidence was improved after his neurolink
with John Doe, Christie found Geordi much more attractive. ("Booby Trap"
[TNG]; "Transfigurations" [TNG]). Played by Julie Warner.
-
hentas.
-
Measurement of distance used
by the Malons. ("Demons of Air and Darkness" [Pocket DS9 Gateways]).
-
Hephaestans.
-
Nonaligned race of sentient
humanoid simians native to the planet Hephaestus in the Kyros star system.
The Hephaestans are the operators of one of the quadrant's most popular
recreational spa facility. An interesting note of the Hephaestan species
is that they supplement their intelligence privately with implanted bio-neural
chips which give them great intellectual ability greater than they are
naturally born with. This ability was very nearly destroyed when a rogue
Klingon commander nearly crippled the industry which creates these computer
ships in the early 2270s. ("All the Infinite Ways" [Marvel TOS #13]).
-
Hephaestus.
-
Nonaligned paanet located in
the Kyros star system, home to an intelligent race of simian humanoids.
Hephaestus in known throughout the quadrant for its superb recreational
facilities and spas, making it a favored vacation spot for Federation and
also non-aligned citizens. In the early 2270s Admiral Kirk of the Enterprise
jourrneyed to Hephaestus to negotiate mining rights with the planets leaders.
("All
the Infinite Ways" [Marvel TOS #13]).
-
Hephaestus,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Starfleet
registry NCC-26294. (Federation Starship Recognition Manual [FASA TOS
RPG]). The text indicated this might have been built as a Miranda-class
vessel (of the same type as the Reliant).
-
Hera,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Starfleet
registry NCC-26297. (Federation Starship Recognition Manual [FASA TOS
RPG]). The text indicated this might have been built as a Miranda-class
vessel (of the same type as the Reliant).
-
Hera,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Nebula-class
cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-62006. Second Federation starship known
to bear the name. Commanded by Captain Silva La Forge. The Hera
had a crew of 300, most of whom were Vulcan. The ship disappeared without
a trace in 2370. Captain Silva La Forge was the mother of Enterprise-D
engineer Geordi La Forge. Named for the Greek goddess Hera, wife of Zeus
and queen of the gods. ("Interface" [TNG]).
-
herbal
tea.
-
Hot Terran beverage made from
aromatic plants such as chamomile. ("Unforgettable" [VGR]).
-
Herbeck.
-
Starfleet officer who captained
an interceptor-type vessel in the mid to late 23rd century. (Begin Tactical
Starship Simulator [Clockwork Software]). The game software put each captain
name in command of a random vessel each time the game was played.
-
Herbert.
-
Starfleet ensign assigned to
the starship Enterprise-D. He served as transporter operator during
the investigation of Dr. Paul Manheim's laboratory on planetoid Vandor
IV. (""We'll Always Have Paris" [TNG]; "The Icarus Factor" [TNG]). Played
by Lance Spellerberg.
-
Herbert.
-
Derogatory term taken from a
minor government official known for his rigid patterns of thought. Dr.
Sevrin's followers were very fond of calling Captain Kirk by that name.
("The Way to Eden" [TOS]).
-
Here's
to the Losers.mp3 sinatra
-
Popular 20th century Earth musical
composition that spoke of the challenges of attracting a suitable mate
in humanoid society. The song was performed by such entertainers as Vic
Fontaine and Frank Sinatra. The holographic recreation of Fontaine sang
it to Julian Bashir and Quark when the two were commiserating over their
failure to win the romantic attentions of Jadzia Dax. ("Tears of the
Prophets" [DS9]).
-
heresy.
-
In some repressive societies,
heresy is the crime of holding or expressing beliefs that might tend to
challenge the authority of the established power structure in that society.
In such societies, prosecution of heresy can be a means of silencing those
who hold beliefs that those in power find objectionable. ("Distant Origin"
[VGR]).
-
Hermats.
-
Technologically sophisticated
civilization of humanoids of which Burgoyne-172 is a member. Hermats generally
tend to keep to themselves, and they have tended to segregate themselves
from the rest of the Federation. Hermat individuals are possessed of two
sexes, and each has fully functioning male and female capabilities. Physically
Hermats look much like a cross between a male and a female human. Also,
Hermats have somewhat larger foreheads, slightly sharpened canine teeth,
and very dark eyes. Hermats posses physical strength about two and a half
times human norm. Because of their bi-gendered natures, special pronouns
and honorifics are used when referring to members of species possessed
of both sexes such as the Hermats. ("Into the Void" [Pocket NF #2])

-
Hermes-class.
-
Type of Federation starship,
a class one scout, 242.5 meters in overall length with a dead weight tonnage
of 94,500 metric tons, lightly armed with 2 phaser banks and able to sustain
a maximum safe cruising speed of warp factor 6, with a standard crew complement
of 195. The Hermes outward configuration was largely identical
to that of the Saladin-class destroyers. ("The Wrath of Khan"
[Movie #2]; Star Fleet Technical Manual [Franz Joseph]). The Hermes-class
is externally indistinguishable from its sister class, the Saladin
destroyer, except that the Hermes scout lacks the extra weapons
ports of the Saladin. Both these vessels were designed by Franz
Joseph for his 1975 Star Fleet Technical Manual, although a more advanced
and detailed scematic was published by Todd Guenther. The Hermes
schematic on this entry was drawn by Harry Doddema of Titan
Fleet Yards, please do not reuse without his link and reading his permission.
-
Hermes,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, prototype
for the Hermes-class, Starfleet registry NCC-585. Named for the
messenger-god of ancient Greek mythology. (Star Fleet Technical Manual
[Franz Joseph]).
-
Hermes,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Starfleet
registry NCC-26285. Second Federation starship known to bear the name.
(Federation
Starship Recognition Manual [FASA TOS RPG]). The text indicated this might
have been built as a Miranda-class vessel (of the same type as the
Reliant), although I have omitted this from the body of the entry
as I find lists of hundreds of vessels of the same type to be possibly
apocryphal.
-
Hermes,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Antares-class,
Starfleet registry NCC-10376. The third known starship to bear the name
Hermes.
The Hermes served in Picard's armada to blockade the Romulan supply
ships supplying the Duras family forces during the Klingon civil war of
2367-2368. ("Redemption" [TNG]). This vessel's type and registry were
identifiable on several computer displays seen throughout The Next Generation's
fourth and fifth seasons. It is unclear whether the Antares-class
this ship belongs to has anything to do with the non-Starfleet Antares-class
vessels used by the Bajorans and other civilian and alien ships , or with
the earlier Starfleet vessel of the name Antares.
-
Hermosa
Quake.
-
Disastrous seismic event in
2047 on the coast of southern California near the city of Los Angeles on
Earth. The quake caused most of the entire region around Hermosa to sink
under 200 meters of water. The area became one of Earth's largest coral
reefs, home to thousands of different marine species. ("Future's End"
[VGR]).
-
Heron

-
Hester,
Janet
-
21st century scientist. Janet
Hester was among the forerunners in the experimental field of biological
matter transportation. Her attempts to create new forms of teleportation
were considered dangerous, and halted by authorities. Hester faked her
own death and, along with several colleagues, relocated to a secret laboratory
on the planetoid Mycena in 2198. After 53 years in hiding, a distress call
from Hester was received by the starship Endeavour in 2251. The
89 year old scientist, the sole survivor of the scientist population due
to severe teleportation accidents, was taken aboard that vessel. Shortly
thereafter, the crew began experiencing mind control, the victims of the
disembodied subjects of Hester's experiments. Hester attempted to escape
in a shuttle, crashing and dying in the ice near her laboaratories.
("Experiment in Vengeance" [Marvel TOS]).
-
Hester-Jones,
Karen.
-
Science officer aboard the starship
Enterprise
in 2273, a zoologist. Lieutenant Hester-Jones had previously been involved

to him to the failure of her marriage. After a mission to the planetoid
Mycena, Lt. Hester-Jones requested reassignment. ("Experiment in Vengeance"
[Marvel TOS]).
-
Hesterman.
-
Noted 21st century author. Hesterman's

-
Hestia,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Starfleet
registry NCC-26292. (Federation Starship Recognition Manual [FASA TOS
RPG]). The text indicated this might have been built as a Miranda-class
vessel (of the same type as the Reliant), although I have omitted
this from the body of the entry as I find lists of hundreds of vessels
of the same type to be possibly apocryphal.
