Similar to the Star Trek Encyclopedia by Michael Okuda et al., the Galactopedia intends to expand on that base with a listing of referential information not contained in that work. Also I am attempting to include extraneous information derived from all non-canon sources of Trek material, which i feel to be just as much a part of the Star Trek experience as those filmed adventures which have been deemed as "canon" to Star Trek by Paramount Pictures. I feel it is only respectful to those who have come before to at least acknowledge their work, rather than dismissing it because it has been contradicted by a newer filmed Star Trek production, or is simply considered irrelevant in some way by the studio or production staff. In some ways, publications by licensed sources and fans very much embody, or at least pertain to as a form of commentary, to the human spirit of Star Trek Gene Roddenberry created in the 1960s. This spirit which exists in some of the filmed and televised Star Trek also lives on in the novels, comics, games and animation... The Galactopedia is of course written as a real encyclopedia from the eyes of an observer in the 24th century. I have taken liberties to include information that is not common knowledge to the general public of that time period unlike the Okuda version, simply for completeness sake. Even though Kirk promised to keep Zefram Cochrane's continued existence a secret, I wil impart that information to you in the main body. Think of yourself as a near omniscient citizen of the galaxy for being able to know about these secret events. In other ways the entries are similar to those used in the Star Trek Encyclopedia, except i have taken additional care to assure that entries are sourced accurately. If i put an assumption or conjecture in i will mark it as such. Michael Okuda likes to make up very unlikely things and pass them off as fact when they are not sourced from any valid Trek literature except for his own head. I am taking additional efforts to ensure that any additional information about production and real world filming is separated from the entries of the Trek universe. Anything from our world and viewpoint will be included in italics after the main body of the entry, as to not upset the illusion of 24th century reading. This includes sources and references to actors and filmmakers involved in the series. I also am changing Okuda's style so as not to include an entry source withing a main body, so as not to disrupt the flow of the article. Okuda would cite a fact and at the end of every sentence place an episode name, which is distracting. Visually the main text is blue against black background, with entry titles color coded. Academy
commandant.Note that the entry has multiple sources, all of which are at the end, rather than interspersed so as not to break the article's flow. A sideline picture is included. The Trekker's Galactopedia was designed
for Internet Explorer 4.0+ at 800 by 600 resolution. Other resolutions
may distort the text and graphics relationships. The Fullscreen feature
of IE4+ is recommended.
