Readout on medical sensors on Federation starships. The K-3 indicator measures the neural activity associated with the brains reception of pain signals from the body. ("Operation: Annihilate" [TOS #29]).

Kaaj.
Klingon, son of Torg. Commander of the battlecruiser Varchas. Kaaj was born with a birth defect, lacking muscle tissue and vitality in his left arm. Kaaj lived and flourished in the Klingon Navy despite his deformity. In 2254 Kaaj learned of Federation interests on the planet Pharos, and organized a series of pirate attacks on Starbase 13 and the planet. Captain Pike of the Enterprise destroyed the planet's dilithium reserves in order to keep them out of Klingon hands. Kaaj swore a blood oath against Pike, and later that year laid a trap to draw Pike away from his ship with a falsified message from Admiral Mahirn, shooting him down over the colony world Prairie. Several colonists and Klingon officers were killed in ensuing battles, although Pike escaped. ("The Fires of Pharos" [Marvel EV #2]; "The Flat, Gold Forever" [Marvel EV #7]; "Thanatos" [Marvel EV #16]; "Nemesis" [Marvel EV #17]).

Kabul River.
Major waterway in the old Terran state of Afghanistan. The river runs past the capitol city of Kabul to the Indian Ocean. A holodeck program on the Enterprise-D simulated this setting. ("The Loss" [TNG #84]).

Planet in the  Kadass system that is home of an office of Starfleet Intelligence Sector One. (Star Fleet Intelligence--Operations Manual [FASA RPG]).

Kamala.
Native of the Krios system, the first empathic metamorph born on her world in over a century. Raised from childhood to fulfill her role as an instrument of peace, Kamala was fated to wed Chancellor Alrik of Valt Minor. When Kamala came aboard the Enterprise-D, she was in the final stages of the Finiiss'ral stage of sexual maturity, causing disruptions aboard the ship.  As an empathic metamorph she automatically altered her personality to suit the desires of any man she happened to be with. Although she had been betrothed to Alrik, Kamala ended up being mentally bonded to Picard because of their close contact.  She learned his sense of duty and went through with the wedding to ensure peace between her peoples. ("The Perfect Mate" [TNG #121]). Played by Famke Janssen. Janssen later appeared as Xenia Onatopp in the James Bond film "Goldeneye."
Kamarag.
Klingon ambassador to the Federation. Kamarag attempted to secure the extradition of James Kirk in 2286 to be brought to trial for the death of a Klingon crew and theft of a Klingon starship. Kamarag also mistakenly believed that Kirk had participated in the development of Project Genesis with the intent of using it as a weapon against the Klingon people.  Kamarag declared that there would be "no peace while Kirk lives," storming out of the Federation Council chambers.  Kamarag made good on this promise, offering a reward for Kirk's death, causing an incident between the Klingons and the Nasgul, who had done the same thing. Under Kamarag and the Nasgul's false Salla, Vlagro, a trial was held on Earth to determine if Kirk was guilty of the crimes the Klingons accused him of. In 2293, Kamarag. ("The Voyage Home" [Movie #4]; "The Undiscovered Country" [Movie #6]; "The Return" [DC TOS vol.2 #1]). Played by John Schuck.

Kamin.
Inhabitant of the planet Kataan who lived a thousand years ago shortly before that worlds destruction by a nova. Kataan resided in the community of Ressik, making his living as an ironweaver. Kamin was married to Eline and had two children, Meribor and Batai, and several grandchildren. Kamin's life was recorded and launched into space aboard a probe before the planet's destruction so that others would know of the Kataanian people. The probe was encountered by the starship Enterprise-D in 2368 and Captain Jean-Luc Picard experienced twenty-five years worth of Kamins life on less than a half hour. The only physical aspect of Kamin left in the probe was the Ressikan flute he loved, which was kept and played by Picard. ("The Inner Light" [TNG #125]).

Cardassian alcoholic beverage. ("The Wounded" [TNG]).
Kang.
Commander of the Klingon battlecruiser Klolode. ("Day of the Dove" [TOS #66]; "Blood Oath" [DS9 #39]; "Flashback" [VGR #45]; "Pawns and Symbols" [Pocket TOS]). Played by Michael Ansara. Kang was one of the three original Klingons that reprised his role thirty years later on Deep Space Nine. Ansara later played Jeyal in [DS9] and reprised the role of Kang again in "Flashback" [VGR].

Gamma Quadrant star system located only a few light years from the Bajoran wormhole's terminus. ("Demons of Air and Darkness" [Pocket Gateways #4]).
Karemma.
Humanoid species. ("The Search" [DS9]; "Starship Down" [DS9]).
Kargan.
Klingon, captain of the bird-of-prey Pagh. Kargan was William Riker's superior officer when he served on that vessel as part of the Officer Exchange Program in 2365. ("A Matter of Honor" [TNG #34]). Played by Christopher Collins.

Karidian, Anton.
Alias adopted by Kodos after he faked his death on Tarsus IV. ("The Conscience of the King" [TOS #12]).

Star system. Three Pryn family Orion craft engaged the starship Akula here and were neutralized in 2288. (Ships of the Star Fleet, vol. 2).

Inhabited planet. The Conservator of Kat II requested protection from the Federation in 2288 because of Orion activity in their star system. (Ships of the Star Fleet, vol. 2).

Resident of Deep Space Nine who was killed by the Changeling known as Meta in 2369. ("The Siege" [Pocket DS9 #2]).

Helmsman who served on the starship Enterprise in 2264. ("Where No Man Has Gone Before" [TOS #1]). Played by Paul Carr.
Kenney, Grace K.
Starfleet commander. In 2374, reports from the starships Clement, Victory and Sarajevo reported that Commander Kenney was wounded in action. ("In the Pale Moonlight" [DS9 #143]). The names and status reports came from a casualty report shown in a background computer display.
Kenyon, Byron.
Brother of Norman Kenyon. ("Once Burned" [Pocket Captain's Table #5]).
Kenyon, Martha.
Science officer on the starship Harriman. Martha Harriman was killed when that vessel was caught in the crossfire of a Romulan and Klingon skirmish two months into her husband's captaincy. ("Once Burned" [Pocket Captain's Table #5]).
Kenyon, Norman.
Commanding officer of the starship Grissom. Kenyon died in 2371. ("Once Burned" [Pocket Captain's Table #5]).
Kenyon, Stephanie.
Federation, the daughter of Norman Kenyon. ("Once Burned" [Pocket Captain's Table #5]).
Keppler-class
Type of Federation starship. (Technical Manual [TOS]).

Klingon brigadier. ("The Undiscovered Country" [Movie #6]).
Kerzuk.
Klingon, a mole who infiltrated Starfleet under the name of Karl Tomlinson. In his guise of Tomlinson, Kerzuk gained the rank of full admiral. Kerzuk attempted to support a group of Klingon mercenaries trying to gain control of Federation and Nasgul mining interests on Skellen III, and the Klingon government saw fit to inform Starfleet officials of his true identity. ("Target: Mudd!" [DC TOS vol.2 #24]).

Kessec.
Klingon. ("The Devil's Heart" [Pocket TNG HC #3]).

Ketira.
Former homeworld of the Ketiran peoples. The Ketirans had become refugees residing on many planets by the early 23rd century, but were found a new world to call home thanks to the help of Ambassador Sarek in the 2230s. ("Homeworld" [DC TOS vol.2 Annual #3]).
Ketirans.
Humanoid species that resides on the planet New Ketira. The Ketirans were beginning overtures towards Federation membership by the 2280s. ("Homeworld" [DC TOS vol.2 Annual #3]).
Ketoi, U.S.S.
Federation starship, a destroyer-type vessel, Starfleet registry NCC-1768. This vessel existed in the mid to late 23rd century. The Ketoi's top speed was warp 9.9 on the old scale, and the ship was armed with four torpedo launchers and four phaser emitters. This vessel's complement is 200 crewpeople. This vessel was originally proposed as a heavy cruiser, but construction was cancelled and the name was used for a destroyer-type vessel instead. (Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]; Ships of the Star Fleet [Mastercom]; Begin Tactical Starship Simulator [Clockwork Software]). If built as a cruiser, this ship would have been Achernar-class, according to the manuals. There is no intention that the ship in the game was intended to have the TM registry, but it could since the Achernar-class Ketoi was never constructed.
