sector.
In interstellar mapping, a cubic volume of space approximately twenty light-years across. Typical sectors will contain 6-10 star systems, although those toward the galactic core may contain more. The Milky Way galaxy is divided into hundreds of thousands of sectors, grouped into four quadrants. Sectors are usually numbered, although in common usage may be named for a major star or planet located in that sector. Some sectors are not named or numbered in sequence with others, retaining designations from earlier mapping systems. (Encyclopedia [Pocket]; Star Charts [Pocket]).
