Smelter's Hold.: ("The Devil's Heart" [Pocket TNG HC #3]).
Smillie, William.: Starfleet commander-in-chief in 2293. ("The Undiscovered Country" [Pocket TOS Movie #6]).
Smith.: Captain's yeoman to Kirk of the Enterprise in 2264. ("Where No Man Has Gone Before" [TOS #1]). Played by Andrea Dromm.
Smithers, Jarvis.: Lieutenant commander, planetary survey officer on the starship Enterprise-D. ("A Matter of Conscience" [DC TNG vol.2 #63]).
Snnanagfashtalli.: Security officer on the starship Enterprise. ("The Entropy Effect" [Pocket TOS #2]).
Sobel.: British captain of the H.M.S. Justina during the American revolutionary war on Terra. ("Ancient Blood" [Pocket Day of Honor #1]).
Sohlar.: Vulcan engineer. ("The Undiscovered Country" [Pocket TOS Movie #6]).
Sohle.: Vulcan archaeologist. ("The Devil's Heart" [Pocket TNG HC #3]).
Sol.: Star located in sector 001. There are ten planets in this star system, the third being the home of the human species, Terra.
Solack.: Vulcan first officer of the starship Constitution in 2364. Solack was inadvertantly responsible for the contamination of that vessel crew when he beamed back to the ship after being exposed to the Rhulian flu prions in the Enterprise-D sickbay, then went back to the Constitution and attended a staff meeting and a birthday party. ("Infection" [Pocket TNG #51]).
Soleta.: Vulcan, science officer on the starship Excalibur. ("House of Cards" [Pocket NF #1, et al.]).
Solis, Orfil.: ("The Arsenal of Freedom" [TNG]).
Solkar.: Vulcan, father to Skon, grandfather to Sarek. ("The Search for Spock" [Movie #3]).
Solok.: ("Avenger" [Pocket TOS HC #11]).
Solok.: ("Take Me Out to the Holosuite" [DS9]).
Soloman.: ([SCE]).
somalin.: ("Passages" [Marvel SA #6]).
Sonak.: ("The Motion Picture" [Movie #1]). Played by Jon Kamal.
Song of Solitude.: Bajoran composition. This song was played by Shek and Rolf for the crew of the Orb of Peace at the OK Corral in the Badlands. ("Behind Enemy Lines" [Pocket Dominion War #1]).
Soong, Noonien.: ("Datalore" [TNG]; "Brothers" [TNG]; "Inheritance" [TNG]). Played by Brent Spiner.
Sord.: ("Jihad" [TAS]).
Soren.: ("The Outcast" [TNG]).
Sorren.: Vulcan archaeologist. ("The Devil's Heart" [Pocket TNG HC #3]).
Soryu, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Starfleet registry NCC-3211. (Ships of the Star Fleet, vol.1).
SoSoy tuj, I.K.S.: Klingon battlecruiser. ("Ship of the Line" [Pocket TNG HC #8]).
Soth.: ("The Devil's Heart" [Pocket TNG HC #3]).
Sovak.: ("Captain's Holiday" [TNG]). Played by Max Grodénchik.
Soviet Union.: Defunct national government from the planet Terra's 20th century. ("Wolf in the Fold" [TOS] "Assignment: Earth" [TOS]; "The Voyage Home" [Movie #4] "Our Man Bashir" [DS9]; "Future's End" [VGR]).

Sovereign-class.: Type of Federation starship first built in 2372, one of the most advanced that currently exists, classified as a type-2 explorer. Measures approximately 685 meters in length and 24 decks in height. This class was designed in part by Captain Montgomery Scott, with construction supervised by Captain Morgan Bateson. Some improvements included in these ships are a continuum safe warp drive and new quantum torpedo systems. The starship Enterprise-E and, presumably, the Sovereign are of this class. The two original vessels, Enterprise and Sovereign, were planned in 2365 as a response to new knowledge about the possibility of a Borg invasion. ("First Contact" [Movie #8]). The Sovereign-class was designed by production designer Herman Zimmerman with illustrator John Eaves. Rick Sternbach did construction drawings of the model, built at ILM.
Sovereign, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Belknap-class strike cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-2505. The Sovereign's keel was laid down on 17 November 2276 by the Cosmadyne Corpoation's Boston Shipyards on Terra. The vessel was launched on 4 December 2277 and commissioned on 29 July 2278. In February 2289 the Sovereign's home port was changed from the previous Bekkaas Installation assignment to Starbase 12, with a corresonding change from operational control of the subquadrant two south fleet to quadrant zero's fleet. The ship participated in an exercise called "Prime Determination" from 23 Febuary to 11 March, that year. The ship then participated in a 17-day operational readiness exercise. The ship visited Aj Kasij, a spaceport city on Coridan IV, before departing for Alpha Eridani with the starships Haruna, Soryu and Hashishiyun on 29 April. On 22 May 2289 the vessel put into Makarii, Alpha Centauri VII for the Grand Regent's celebration, before departing for subquadrant one south in the company of the starships Cosmitus, Terni and Wasp. On 19 October the Sovereign was in port at New Canberra, Aldebaran before being assigned for a six-week tactical training cruise with the starships Yorktown and Exeter, operating in the Ky'Achta area of subquadrant one south. On 12 November a DF-7 assault craft of Alturat squadron crashed into the Sovereign's hangar bay, causing major damage to the craft but incurring no casualties, and the ship was assigned to defensive patrols in quadrant zero on 9 December 2289. Sovereign, U.S.S.: Federation starship, the prototype Sovereign-class heavy explorer, Starfleet registry NCC-73811. The Sovereign was commanded by Admiral Alynna Nechayev, and for a brief period of time, her imposter from the mirror universe. ("Spectre" [Pocket TOS HC #12]; "Bridge Commander" [Activision]). The
soya.: ("How Much For Just the Planet?" [Pocket TOS #36]).

Soyuz-class.: Type of Federation starship. A modification of the Miranda-class, the Soyuz-class featured enhanced weapons and shielding and lacked the science applications of the Miranda. Externally, the ship had enlarged aft cargo and shuttlebay sections as well as outboard weapon, deflector and sensor pods. These ships served primarily as border cutters for perimeter action and enforcement. As of 2278, there were only five Soyuz-class ships in service, including the Bozeman and, presumably, the Soyuz. The last Soyuz-class ship was taken out of service in 2288, although the lost Bozeman was recovered and was placed on active patrols from 2368 until 2371. Soyuz 14.: Soviet spacecraft. (Historical data).
Soyuz, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Miranda-class. This ship was refit to new specifications as the prototype for the Soyuz-class. (Conjecture).
Space Age.: Time period on the planet Terra. The Space Age was begun on Terran date 4 October 1959 by the launch of the first artificial satellite, Sputnik. (Historical data).
Space Homesteading Act.: 2014 law which allowed pioneers and enterprisers to begin to utilize the resources of the Sol system. (Spaceflight Chronology).
Space Immigrants--The Story of the Homestead Act.: Historical text by John Bukor, published in the mid-23rd century. (Spaceflight Chronology).
Space Race.: Period of Terran history where to of the planets rival provincial nations, the United States and the Soviet Union, competed for supremacy of space exploration in a largely symbolic display for morale purposes. (Historical data).
Space Shuttle.: Terran spacecraft built in the last quarter of their 20th century, the first reusable space vehicle. ("The Motion Picture" [Movie #1]; Historical data).
Space Station Sigma-1.: ("Death Count" [Pocket TOS #62]).
Spadora, Joseph.: Captain of the Patton, an Earth vessel that was destroyed by Romulans in the Eta Leonis system. Spadora will die with his crew, assaulted by a Romulan U-15 starship's guided missile. This is seen by many as the beginning of the Earth-Romulan Wars. (Spaceflight Chronology; [FASA]).
Sparon.: Vulcan, captain of a space vessel which will become disabled near the Sol system in the late 21st century. He and his crew are rescued by humans aboard the U.N.S.S. Amity. (Spaceflight Chronology; "Strangers from the Sky" [Pocket Giant]; [FASA]).
Sparrow.: Experimental space vessel designed by Starfleet in the 2260s to test power configurations for stolen Romulan cloaking technology. ("Cry of the Onlies" [Pocket TOS]).
Sparrowhawk.: Type of Romulan spacecraft used in the mid 23rd century on. ([FASA]; [SFB]).
Spartan, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Caracal-class cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-752. The Spartan's keel was laid down on 11 July 2187, and the vessel was launched on 4 February 2284 and commissioned on 5 October, that year. This vessel was decommissioned on 29 April 2230, and scrapped the next year. (Caracal-class Plans).
Special Security Division.: Starfleet enforcement and investigation agency. ("Death's Angel" [Bantam TOS]).
Species 407.: Borg designation for a humanoid species with seven fingers on each hand. An artful and cultured society, 407 were assimilated without heavy resistance. Druana belonged to Species 407 before she was assimilated. ("Seven of Nine" [Pocket VGR #16]).
Species 1811.: Borg designation for a Delta Quadrant race. Species 1811 was dismissed as unworthy to join the collective as they would have weakened the whole. They were unable to adapt to assimilation and died quickly as drones. ("Seven of Nine" [Pocket VGR #16]).
Species 2822.: Borg designation for a Delta Quadrant race. Species 2822 thrived on opportunity, and survive many disasters with ingenuity and skill. Members of this race were added to the Borg collective. ("Seven of Nine" [Pocket VGR #16]).
Species 4744.: Borg designation for Skedans. ("Seven of Nine" [Pocket VGR #16]).
Species 8472.: Borg designation for an extra galactic species originating in a realm of fluidic space. ("Scorpion" [VGR]).
Specific.: Space vessel that participated in the 2260s Great Starship Race, a Melkotian starship commanded by Im. ("The Great Starship Race" [Pocket TOS #67]).
Spector, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Akira-class through-deck cruiser. The Spector attempted to intercept the stolen starship Prometheus in 2374. ("Message in a Bottle" [VGR]; Fact Files). This vessel's name was seen in the international Star Trek: Fact Files magazine.
Spencer, James.: ("Red Sector" [Pocket TNG #53]).
Speria.: ("Incident at Arbuk" [Pocket VGR #5]).
Sperians.: ("Incident at Arbuk" [Pocket VGR #5]).

Sphinx.: Type of Federation utility craft used aboard starships and inside spacedocks. ("11001001" [TNG]).
Sphinx, U.S.S.: Federation starship, a Centaurus-class courier, commanded by Jack Casden. ("Cloak" [Pocket TOS Section 31]).
Spican flame gems.: ("The Trouble With Tribbles" [TOS]).
Spiro, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Surya-class heavy frigate, Starfleet registry NCC-1884. The Spiro's keel was laid down on 12 June 2248 at Starfleet's Singapore Naval Yards on Terra in the Sol system. The vessel will be launched on 28 March 2250 and commissioned on 13 September. This vessel was later uprated to the specifications of the Miranda-class, and in April 2289 participated in an exercise called Centerprise 10 in the Cygnet region, in the company of the starships Achernar, Shangri-La, Adroit, Korinthos and Naze. Spitball: Type of add-on pod for Federation workbees, specifically the two man Duobee. The Spitball pod will contains a wepon array and small hop warp drive, designed to turn the pod into a fighter, much like the sigle man Workbee's Killer Bee configuration. (Dixon Timeline).
Spock.: Federation ambassador, the former executive officer and science officer of two starships Enterprise. ("The Cage" [TOS unaired pilot; "The Motion Picture" [Movie #1]; "Red Sector" [Pocket TNG #53]). Played by Leonard Nimoy.
Spock (mirror).: Vulcan first officer of the Terran Empire starship I.S.S. Enterprise in the mirror universe. ("Mirror, Mirror" [TOS #39]). Played by Leonard Nimoy.
Spot.: Feline. ("Data's Day" [TNG]).

Springeren, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Knox-class frigate, Starfleet registry NCC-1950. The Springeren's keel was laid down on 14 February 2278 at Newport News Shipbuilding's Louisiana Docks on Terra. The vessel was launched on 26 February 2279 and commisioned on 12 June. In April 2289, this ship participates in the exercise called "Ga'tan Trick" along with the starships Unificatum, Essahir, Swift and Devonshire. (Ships of the Star Fleet)

Springfield-class.: Type of Federation starship. ("The Best of Both Worlds" [TNG]). The Springfield-class model was only visible in the extreme background of the Wolf 359 battle scenes.
Springfield, U.S.S.: Federation starship, prototype of the Springfield-class, at least the second vessel to bear the name. (Conjecture).
Spumco.: Cardassian gul who was kidnapped by Surmak Ren during the occupation. ("Babel" [DS9]). This name was only readable in Surmak Ren's computer file. Rightly so...

Ssan.: Federated planet. ("Shadows on the Sun" [Pocket TOS]).
Ssana.: Singular form of Ssani. ("Shadows on the Sun" [Pocket TOS]).
