V SECTION 1: V through Vi.

Vaal.: Sophisticated computer god-machine that controlled planet Gamma Trianguli VI. The inhabitants of the planet worshipped Vaal as a god, providing it with fuel. In exchange Vaal provided an idyllic paradisical environment. Vaal maintained a powerful planetary defense system that crippled the starship Enterprise in orbit and killed several landing party members. Vaal nearly destroyed the ship, but was destroyed by phaser fire after the landing party cut off its fuel supply, the villagers. ("The Apple" [TOS #38]).
Vaatrik.: Bajoran, operator of a chemist's shop on the promenade of Terok Nor in 2365. ("Necessary Evil" [DS9 #28]).
Vacca VI.: Class M planet in the Cabral sector. Vacca was the location of the 2370 Boraalan resettlement. ("Homeward" [TNG #165]).
Vadosia.: Bolian ambassador to the Federation who visited Deep Space 9 in 2369 on a fact-finding mission to the Bajoran wormhole. ("The Forsaken" [DS9 #17]). Played by Jack Shearer.
Vadris III.: Planet where the natives think they’re the only intelligent life in the universe. Q offered to take archaeologist Vash to Vadris III, but she declined. ("Q-Less" [DS9 #7]).
Vagh.: Klingon governor of the Kriosian system. When the Kriosian population under his control began to rebel and demand independence in 2367, Vagh accused the Federation of aiding their cause. The crew of the Enterprise-D was able to show that it was the Romulans who were supporting the rebels. Governor Vagh became the target of an assassination attempt by Geordi LaForge, acting under Romulan control. The Romulans hoped by having LaForge murder the governor, a rift would be formed in the Federation/Klingon alliance. ("The Mind's Eye" [TNG #98]). Played by Edward Wiley.
Vagra II.: Planet in the Zed Lapis Sector. Now nearly deserted, Vagra II was the home to life-forms who left the planet to become creatures of dazzling beauty. In doing so, they left behind a creature called Armus, which still lives on the planet. Enterprise-D shuttlecraft 13 crashed there in 2364, and Security Chief Natasha Yar was killed there by Armus while on a rescue mission to the planet’s surface. ("Skin of Evil" [TNG #22]).
vajhaq.: ("Meridian" [DS9 #54]).
Vak clover soup.: ("Melora" [DS9 #26]).
vakol fish.: ("State of Flux" [VGR #11]).
Vala.: Crewperson aboard the starship Ranger in 2292. ("New Worlds" [Interplay TOS]).
Valdemar, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Ambassador-class heavy cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-26198. The Valdemar was dispatched to the Cardassian DMZ after Miles O'Brien was was arrested in 2370. ("Tribunal" [DS9 #45]).
Valek, Jal.: ("Maneuvers" [VGR #27]; "Alliances" [VGR #31]). Played by Johnny Martin.
Valerian root tea.: Favored beverage of Deanna Troi. ("Second Chances" [TNG #150]).
Valerians.: Species that supplied extremely pure weapons-grade dolamide to the Cardassians during the occupation of Bajor. A Valerian transport vessel requested permission to dock at Deep Space 9 in 2369 for repairs. Major Kira Nerys asked that their request be denied because of their history with the Cardassians, but Commander Sisko refused. ("Dramatis Personæ" [DS9 #18]).
Valeris.: Starfleet lieutenant on the starship Enterprise-A on the 2293 Khitomer peace mission. Valeris had been sponsored by Enterprise Captain Spock and was the first Vulcan to graduate at the top of her Starfleet Academy graduating class. Although fiercely logical, Valeris believed that the coming peace accords were a mistake and joined a conspiracy with Admiral Cartwright and Klingon General Chang to assassinate Gorkon. ("The Undiscovered Country" [Movie #6]). Played by Kim Cattrall

Valiant, S.S.: Early interstellar exploration vessel that was lost at the Galactic Barrier in 2065. Shortly after contact with the barrier, at least one crew member mutated into a godlike being, forcing the ship’s captain to order the Valiant destroyed to prevent the escape of the mutated crew member. ("Where No Man Has Gone Before" [TOS #1]; "Valiant" [Pocket TNG]).
Valiant, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Daedalus-class cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-235. Named in honor of the spaceship lost at the galaxy's edge a hundred years previous. (Conjecture). The Daedalus-class Valiant was postulated as possibly being the vessel destroyed at Eminiar, except that incident occurred about 20 years after the last Daedalus was out of service.
Valiant, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Ranger-class cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-1223. The second Federation starship known to bear this name. In the first quarter of the 23rd century, the Valiant visited the planet Eminiar and was declared a casualty of that world's ongoing computer-run conflict with neighboring Vendikar. The Valiant was lost with all hands. ("A Taste of Armageddon" [TOS #23]; Ship Recognition Manual, vol.4 [LUG TOS RPG]). For years, many fans assumed this could have been a Constitution-class vessel, but the timeframe of its loss predates that ship type by many years. The registry listed here was supplied not from the episode, but was devised by Michael Okuda for his reference works. The Last Unicorn roleplaying reference originated this vessel's Ranger-class designation
Valiant, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Constitution-class heavy cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-1623. The third Federation starship known to bear this name, Valiant's keel was laid down on 21 June 2245 at Vickers Shipbuilding Group Ltd., New London, England, Earth. The ship was launched on 14 April 2247 and the vessel was commissioned on 10 September of that year. The Valiant was lost in the line of duty, and on stardate 4444 an appropriation was made for a replacement U.S.S. Valiant, NCC-1731, but that vessel was later renamed U.S.S. La Vengeance. (Federation Starship Recognition Manual [FASA RPG]; Star Fleet Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]; Star Trek Maps [Pocket]). The NCC-1709 registry from the Franz Joseph TM conflicts with the Encyclopedia registry of the U.S.S. Lexington. The FASA manual lists the registry as NCC-1718, a conflict with the registry Ships of the Star Fleet [Mastercom TOS {Todd Guenther}] and the Technical Manual's U.S.S. Excelsior. The only registry for a Constitution-class Valiant that doesn't interfere with another source is the Star Trek Map's NCC-1623. Much of fandom assumed that the Valiant lost over Eminiar was Constitution-class, but the time frame of 50 years before "A Taste of Armageddon" doesn't allow for a Connie to be in existence yet. All these references though seem to indicate a Constitution-class Valiant that should be a separate ship.
Valiant, U.S.S.: Federation starship, a light cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-2252. The fourth Federation starship known to bear this name, the Valiant was the border patrol starship to respond when Romulans assaulted a cargo vessel in the late 23rd century. ("The Romulan Way" [Pocket TOS]). It is odd that this Valiant, intended to be from the early movies era, would have a registry (NCC-2252) higher than the next Valiant NCC-2018 which was built years later, although a precedent exists in the numbers of the two 24th century Prometheuses (NCC-71201 & NCC-59650 respectively). There are various plausible explanations for this, that the ships were contracted in reverse order to the actual time of their building.
Valiant, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Excelsior-class explorer, Starfleet registry NCC-2018. The fifth Federation starship known to bear this name. (Officer's Manual [FASA TNG RPG]). It is odd that this Valiant, intended to be from after the movies era, would have a registry (NCC-2018) lower than the previous Valiant NCC-2252 which was built years earlier, although a precedent exists in the numbers of the two 24th century Prometheuses (NCC-71201 & NCC-59650 respectively). Valiant, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Royal Sovereign-class strike cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-3010. The sixth Federation starship known to bear this name. (Officer's Manual [FASA TNG RPG]).
Valiant, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Oberth-class scout, Starfleet registry NCC-20000. The seventh Federation starship known to bear this name. In 2371 this vessel helped to rescue the survivors of the Enterprise-D's crash on Veridian III. ("Generations" [Movie #7]). It has never been confirmed that these are the markings used for the Oberth model when it appeared in "Generations". However, credible sources report seeing the model with the above name and registry around the time of filming. There is also possibly evidence that an Oberth study model created for the production of "The Search for Spock" [Movie #3] was labeled as Valiant. Either way, it seems that there should be listed an Oberth-class Valiant.
Valiant, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Defiant-class escort, Starfleet registry NCC-74210. The eighth Federation starship known to bear this name, commanded by Captain Ramirez. ("Valiant" [DS9 #146]). During the pre-production for the third season of Deep Space Nine, it was originally intended for the starship Defiant's class name to be 'Valiant-class.' This was abandoned however when the producers wished to establish that the Defiant was the first prototype of its kind, and therefore must be Defiant-class. However, some displays and schematics with the term 'Valiant-class' survived to the screen, causing fans to believe this was the class name. The confusion was ended when this episode showed the Valiant with its plaque reading 'Defiant-class.'
Valiant, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Starfleet registry NCC-75418. Valiant, the ninth Federation starship known to bear this name, was part of Battle Group Omega, an expeditionary force detailed to participate in possible conflicts resulting from the ascension of the short-lived Praetor Shinzon taking control of the Romulan senate in 2379. ("Nemesis" [Movie #10]). The Valiant's registry number is derived from background graphics visible in the movie "Nemesis." It is possible this vessel was built as a Defiant-class, replacing its immediate predecessor, but there is no evidence to support that fact.
Valjean.: ("For the Uniform" [DS9 #111]).
Valkris.: Klingon operative who obtained then-secret Project Genesis data from the Federation, providing it to the Klingon government. Valkris was killed by Klingon commander Kruge because she had read the Genesis material, but her death was an honorable one. ("The Search for Spock" [Movie #3]). Played by Cathie Shirriff.
Valkyrie-class.: Type of Federation craft, classified as a fighter. ("Invasion" [Activision]). These craft were pictured as having 'NCC-' registry numbers. This means they must have independant warp capability, and are among thge smallest craft to be registered and named as starships, along with the other 'smallest ships' the Talon scout and the Danube runabout.
Valkyrie, U.S.S.: Federation craft, prototype for the Valkyrie-class fighter. (Conjecture; "Invasion" [Activision]).
Valley of Chula.: Location on the planet Romulus. ("The Defector [TNG]).
Valley Forge, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Excelsior-class heavy cruiser, NCC-43305. ("Tears of the Prophets" [DS9 #150]).
Vallis, Elizabeth.: ("Up the Long Ladder" [TNG #44]).
Vallo.: Starfleet security guard who helped to take charge of the schooner Edith Keeler when Captain James Kirk was placed under special arrest. ("Battlestations!" [Pocket TOS #31]).
Valo.: Star system in neutral territory where Bajoran refugees settled after fleeing Cardassian tyranny. ("Ensign Ro" [TNG #103]).
Valo I.: Uninhabited planet whose third moon was home to Bajoran terrorist Orta. ("Ensign Ro" [TNG #103]).
Valo II.: Planet with a Bajoran refugee camp where Keeve Falor lives. ("Ensign Ro" [TNG #103]).
Valo III.: Planet with a Bajoran refugee camp where Jaz Holza lives. ("Ensign Ro" [TNG #103]).
Valor, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Miranda-class heavy frigate. The Valor was commanded by Captain Philip Hodges in 2285 when it was involved in a skirmish with a Klingon battlecruiser in the Beta Epsilon star system. The vessel was victorious, but ended up breaking up due to extreme damage. Escape pods were launched, but only one lifeboat survived, crash landing on Beta Epsilon VI, with Captain Hodges aboard. ("Mortal Gods" [DC TOS #5]).
Valoris.: Cardassian warship.
Valt Minor.: Star system neighboring Krios, which takes its name from Valt, one of two brothers who once ruled a vast empire. ("The Perfect Mate" [TNG #121]).
Valtane, Dmitri.: Science officer of the starship Excelsior under the command of Captain Sulu. ("The Undiscovered Country" [Movie #6]).
Valtese horns.: ("The Perfect Mate" [TNG #121]).
Valtese.: Humanoid civilization. ("The Perfect Mate" [TNG #121]).
Van Doren.: Federation physician, a cardiologist. ("Samaritan Snare" [TNG #43]).
Van Gelder, Simon.: Assistant director of the Tantalus V penal colony. ("Dagger of the Mind" [TOS #10]). Played by Morgan Woodward.
Van Mayter.: Lieutenant aboard the starship Enterprise-D. ("In Theory" [TNG #99]).
van Osterlich, Jules.: Captain of the Federation starship Constitution. ("Infection" [Pocket TNG]).
Van Veen, John: Starfleet crewmember aboard the starship Ascendant.
Vanderberg.: Chief engineer of mining operations on Janus VI. ("Devil in the Dark" [TOS #26]). Played by Ken Lynch.
Vandor.: Binary star system. ("We'll Always Have Paris" [TNG]).
Vandor IV.: Planetoid. ("We'll Always Have Paris" [TNG]).
Vandros IV.: ("To the Death" [DS9]).
Varchas, I.K.S.: Klingon battleship, Akif-class battlecruiser. Commanded by Kaaj, son of Torg. The Varchas was responsible for the organization of the privateer forces that attacked Starbase 13 in 2254, resulting in the loss of Pharos' dilithium deposits. ("The Fires of Pharos" [Marvel EV #2]).
Varley, Donald.: Starship captain, commander of the U.S.S. Yamato. ("Contagion" [TNG]). Played by Thalmus Rasulala.
Vaughn, Elias.: Starfleet commander, the executive officer and Starfleet liaison to Deep Space Nine. Vaughn's duties as Colonel Kira's number one include being commanding officer of the starship Defiant. ("Avatar" [Pocket DS9]; "Demons of Air and Darkness" [Pocket Gateways #4]).
Vega colony.: Federation outpost settlement. The starship Enterprise was scheduled to arrive here in 2254 to drop off several crewmembers recuperating from wounds received during a sneak attack on Rigel VII. ("The Cage" [TOS]; "The Menagerie" [TOS]; "Cloak" [Pocket TOS Section 31]).
venlinahr.: ("Dreadnought!" [Pocket TOS #29]; "Battlestations!" [Pocket TOS #31]).
Venture, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Galaxy-class explorer. ("The Way of the Warrior" [DS9 #73&74]).
Venus, U.S.S.: Federation starship, an interceptor vessel in the mid to late 23rd century. The Venus's top speed was warp 12 on the old scale, and the ship was armed with one torpedo launcher and six phaser emitters. This vessel's complement is 105 crewpeople. (Begin Tactical Starship Simulator [Clockwork Software]).
Verdun, U.S.S.: Federation starship commanded by Commodore Lucian Murat. ("The Forgotten War" [Pocket TNG]).
verterium.: Material which is one of the base components of the composite material verterium cortenide. A specific type of verterium, polysilicate verterium, must be carefully and precisely composited with monocrystal cortenum to create verterium cortenide, the vital element which allows Federation warp coils to perform correctly. ("Investigations" [VGR]; Technical Manual [Pocket TNG {Sternbach & Okuda}]).
verterium cortenide.: Mineral substance which is used to facilitate the reaction of warp coils with the fabric of space in order to create a warp field. In Federation starships and other designs used by Terrans and their allies, verterium cortenide coils are arranged within an engine pod known as a nacelle. When they are charged with warp plasma from a fusion or antimatter reactor, the coils become excited and create a warp field around the nacelle. In order for this marerial to be efective in waring space when charged, it must be layered and structured according to precise measurements at the molecular level, and must be composited carefully from two other substances, polysilicate verterium and monocrystal cortenide. ("Investigations" [VGR]; Technical Manual [Pocket TNG {Sternbach & Okuda}]).
Verwar.: Species. ("Metamorphosis" [Pocket TNG Giant #1]).
Vetar.: Cardassian warship. ("Journey's End" [TNG]; "Caretaker" [VGR]).
Vico, S.S.: Federation science vessel, an Oberth-class scout of civilian registry. ("Hero Worship" [TNG #111]).
Victorious-class.: Type of Federation starship. (Officer's Manual [TNG]).
Victorious, U.S.S.: Federation starship, prototype for the Victorious-class. (Officer's Manual [TNG]).
Victory, H.M.S.: ("Elementary, Dear Data" [TNG #29]).
Victory, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Constellation-class exploratory cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-9754. ("Elementary, Dear Data" [TNG #29]; "Identity Crisis" [TNG #92]).
victurium.: ("Hero Worship" [TNG]).
Vidiian Sodality.: Government of the Vidiian people. ("Phage" [VGR #5]).
Vidiians.: Humanoid species native to the Delta Quadrant. ("Phage" [VGR #5]).
Vigo.: Weapons officer aboard the starship Stargazer. ("The Battle" [TNG]; "Reunion" [Pocket TNG HC]; "The First Virtue" [Pocket TNG]).
Vigo, Jason.: ("Bloodlines" [TNG]). Played by Ken Olandt.
Vigo, Miranda.: ("Bloodlines" [TNG]).
viinerine.: ("Face of the Enemy" [TNG]).
Vilix'pran.: Officer serving aboard Deep Space Nine. ("Heart of Stone" [DS9]; "Apocalypse Rising" [DS9]; "Business as Usual" [TNG]).
Vina.: Terran researcher affiliated with the American Continent Institute. Vina was the only survivor of the crash of the survey ship Columbia in 2236, and was stranded on Talos IV in the Talosian menagerie. The Talosians used their power of illusion to give her a visage of youth and beauty, even though her body was wracked by injury. ("The Cage" [TOS unaired pilot]). Played by Susan Oliver.
Vinod.: ("Paradise" [DS9]). Played by Michael Buchman Silver.
Viorsa.: ("The Thaw" [VGR]). Played by Thomas Kopache.
Virak'kara.: Jem'Hadar warrior. ("To the Death" [DS9]). Played by Scott Haven.
Virillian toxic fever.: Debilitating illness. The science officer of the starship Enterprise was diagnosed with this condition in 2252, leading him to be replaced by Midshipman Spock. Spock maintained his position, becoming chief of the Enterprise's science department when he received his lieutenant commission in 2254. ("Flesh of My Flesh" [Marvel EV #1]).
Virka.: Klingon officer. ("The Fires of Pharos" [Marvel EV]).
virtual display.: .("The Ship" [DS9]).
visceral writing.: ("The Muse" [DS9]).
vision quest.: ("The Cloud" [VGR #6]).
VISOR.: Acronym for Visual Instrument Sensory Organ Replacement, a device developed in the mid 23rd century to help give sight to individuals with inactive optic nerves. ("Encounter at Farpoint" [TNG #1&2]).
visual acuity transmitter.: ("Heart of Glory" [TNG]).
visual instrument sensory organ replacement.: SEE: VISOR.
Vitarian wool.: ("The Way of the Warrior" [DS9]).
Viterian.: Kobheerian, captain of the freighter Rak-Minunis. ("Duet" [DS9]; "Second Skin" [DS9]). Played by Lesley Kahn.
Vixis.: Klingon, the executive officer to Klaa aboard the bird-of-prey Okrona. Vixis was a massively built Klingon woman who, like her captain, thirsted for the glory of battle with the starship Enterprise-A, despite the fact that the Klingon government had no open hostilities with the Federation. She was not only the executive officer to Klaa, but also his lover. ("The Final Frontier" [Movie #5]; "The Return" [DC TOS vol.2 #1]; "The Sentence" [DC TOS vol.2 #2]). Played by Spice Williams.
